Mandatory Sexual Education
Adolescents are at risk to most Sexually Transmitted Diseases. Teenagers have shown highest incidence in the recent years. It is the age when one best learns and adapts their lifestyle with education. Topics covered under sexual education are often ignored or misunderstood due to inappropriate educational development. Various taboos associated with socio-cultural issues often interfere with sexual development of a child. There is a lack of co-operation and co-ordination in sexual education in previous years.
Target of this study is to figure out principles and key-points to implement sexual education effectively. Purpose of sexual education is to provide information on sexuality and clear doubts about the causes, complications and basic treatment of the related morbidities. Abstinence-only programs should be discouraged. Youth friendly services should be set up and promoted. Condom promotion campaigns should be frequented, as their cost benefits are massive. It is also important to diversify the scope of sexual education by providing employment and volunteering.
Studies have shown that knowledge is directly proportional to the responsible behavior in society. Hence, early implementation of sexual education is important. It needs to be handled ethically. Different age groups respond differently, therefore it is crucial to plan it based on age and level of understanding of a person. Combined motivation of the child, parents and tutors can be productive. Regional approach is necessary due to language and technical variations. Social leaders should be positive involved. Government and non-government organizations and individual volunteers should co-operate to avoid unbiased implementation.
